Walk for Wilko
Sunday, March 24th | 5 pm | Buttermilk to Aspen
Join us on Sunday, March 24 at 5pm for the Walk for Wilko, a 2.8 mile walk along Wilko's walk home from work. Starting at Buttermilk, the route follows the paved bike path that Wilko walked to work each day and ends in an afterparty in Aspen with food and drink available for purchase. 100% of your ticket purchase will go toward AVSC's Wilko Scholarship and helps to honor his legacy and passion for youth in the outdoors! Preregister now for an extra raffle ticket!
Additional info: Walk for Wilko has been organized as a benefit honoring our beloved friend Mark Wilkinson. "Wilko" passed away suddenly in 2019 of natural causes.
An Australian native, Wilko spent his summers in Sydney driving buses and coaching rugby. He blessed us in the Roaring Fork Valley by returning every winter to lead and manage the snowboard instructor team at Buttermilk. As a boss and leader his calm demeanor and thoughtfulness for each member of the team is what set him apart. His impact and humanity reached out of the Aspen Ski Company realm and into the local community.
The Walk for Wilko will honor his memory by providing a scholarship in his name for a deserving child at AVSC. Wilko embraced the program for its mission of providing every child in the valley an opportunity to snowboard regardless of financial constraits,
Thanks much,
Diane Platek
