Aspen Mountain Academy
About Aspen Mountain Academy (AMA)
Empowering Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) student-athletes to excel both on the slopes and in the classroom through personalized academic support and cutting-edge curriculum in partnership with local schools.
Purpose: The AMA is dedicated to providing high-performance academic support to AVSC middle and high school athletes. Through personalized programming that emphasizes executive functioning, time management, and self-advocacy, AMA works in collaboration with local schools to enable students to excel both academically and athletically, empowering them to pursue their passion for snow sports.
About AMA: The AMA is a specialized academic program developed by AVSC for middle and high school athletes. Designed to meet the unique needs of high-performing student-athletes facing time constraints and energy demands, AMA offers tailored academic support. With a focus on learning strategies and lifelong skills, AMA fosters individualized learning, recognizing that every student requires different levels of support to succeed.
A CLOSER LOOK…
Collaboration: AVSC will work closely with local schools to ensure academic success of student-athletes.
Scheduling: Students will develop a schedule with AVSC’s High Performance Academic Coach (HPAC) that supports on snow training. This may include traditional classes, online classes and summer “semesters” to advance academics.
Curriculum: AMA supports a wide range of curriculum including public school and online offerings. Traditional curriculum will be augmented with online resources including Colorado Digital Learning Solutions (CDLS) and the Institute for Champions and Leaders (ICL, a private online academy).
Goals: Enhance offerings between AVSC and local schools to ultimately improve opportunities for student-athletes and strengthen the pathway from recreational youth sports to high-performance student athletes on the mountains and in the classrooms.
Leadership: Dr. Dave Baugh, AVSC’s Executive Director, will lead the program along with AVSC’s High Performance Academic Coach (HPAC), Andy Davies, a veteran educator, to ensure both the academic and athletic success for students. Both Dave and Andy will work closely with administrators from local schools.
