U10 Comp Head Coach Freestyle

The U10 Comp Head Coach Freestyle provides athletic and administrative leadership within the program. They are responsible for leading all aspects of the U10 Freestyle program, including on-snow training, competition preparation, coach mentorship, parent communication, and program administration. This role ensures that athletes develop technical freestyle skills, competition readiness, and a deep appreciation for AVSC's core values of sportsmanship, effort, and community.
The right candidate will have a solid on-hill presence, strong communication, and organizational skills. Experience working with younger athletes and knowledge of Freeride, Moguls, Park and Pipe disciplines will best position the coach for success.

Compensation
This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly position with a total hourly compensation of $34.00 - $38.00 for the six-month employment term. Final compensation is determined based on experience, certification, and program needs.
Compensation is paid on a bi-monthly basis throughout the season and is not tied to hours worked. As an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this role is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Athlete Instruction and Coaching Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and implement a season-long training plan aligned with AVSC's freestyle progression model, focusing on moguls, terrain park, and all-mountain freestyle fundamentals
- Coach daily on-snow sessions, ensuring progressive skill development in a safe, supportive environment
- Prepare athletes for competition, including mental preparation, course strategy, and event logistics
- Track individual athlete progress and provide regular feedback to athletes and families
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes effort, sportsmanship, and mutual respect
- Oversee U10 training groups, including group assignments, athlete-to-coach ratios, and daily training logistics
- Coordinate with the Freestyle Program Director on competition schedule, venue access, and travel planning
- Manage assistant coaches, including scheduling, feedback, and professional development support
- Ensure all training and competition activities adhere to AVSC safety protocols and risk management procedures
- Maintain training equipment and coordinate with venue staff for course setup and maintenance
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend scheduled training blocks, staff meetings, orientations, and professional development sessions.
- Participate in ongoing coaching education and certification maintenance.
- Assist with awards, recognition programs, and end-of-season evaluations.
- Support AVSC-hosted events, competitions, and camps.
- Interface with governing bodies including U.S. Ski & Snowboard, IFSA, RMD, and related agencies to support program goals.
- Maintain accurate athlete attendance records.
- Complete required athlete billing documentation following camps or travel (if applicable).
- Submit monthly reconciliation and reporting documentation as required.
- Provide an end-of-season written self-evaluation.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in variable and inclement mountain weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport equipment weighing up to 50–75 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, ski, and maneuver snow for extended periods.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Program Level Aerial / Rail Maneuver Limits
- Coaches are not required to perform maneuvers as part of their essential job duties. Those qualified to perform maneuvers listed below must occur only within designated training environments, not casually while freeriding with athletes.
- No aerial maneuvers other than straight airs - no exceptions. Other than straight airs all maneuvers must be qualified with a designated coach on prepared jump and landing (no natural features).
- No inverted maneuvers unless properly qualified.
- No natural features exceeding five (5) feet in height.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge and prior experience in all aspects of Freeride and Freeskiing disciplines (big mountain, terrain park, all-mountain)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required
- Ability to ski at a high level in all freeride terrain and demonstrate technical skills safely
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with athletes, families, coaches, and partners
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage complex coaching and operational demands
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
- Commitment to AVSC's mission, vision, and core values
- Familiarity with IFSA and/or USASA competition structure and rules (preferred)
- Experience managing program budgets (preferred)
- National or International competition experience as a coach and/or athlete (preferred)
