The AVSC Freestyle and Alpine Programs are designed to support the AVSC mission, focusing on athlete-centered programs inspiring excellence, creating opportunity, and instilling AVSC values. The Lead Pre Devo Coach is responsible for providing athletic and administrative leadership within the program. This position best suits a ski coach with a solid on-hill presence and strong organizational skills, and experience in strength and conditioning
The position functions as an educator and coach, exercising professional judgment in instructional methods, athlete development, safety management, and on-hill leadership. The Coach supports the long-term athletic development of freestyle athletes through structured training plans, skill progression, mentorship, and positive role modeling.
Athlete Instruction and Coaching Duties & Responsibilities
This is a seasonal, non-exempt, salaried position with a total monthly compensation of $34 - $37 per hour for the six-month employment term. Final compensation is determined based on experience, certification, and program needs.
Compensation is paid on a bi-monthly basis throughout the season and is not tied to hours worked. As an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this role is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Athlete Instruction and Coaching Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide direct on-hill instruction and coaching to freestyle athletes in park and pipe disciplines.
- Teach technical skills, movement patterns, tactics, and safety protocols using AVSC-approved methodology.
- Design and deliver daily training sessions consistent with seasonal training plans and program objectives.
- Adapt coaching strategies to meet individual athlete learning styles and developmental needs.
- Assess athlete performance and provides constructive, skill-based feedback to support progression.
- Promote long-term athlete development principles appropriate to age, ability, and readiness.
- Exercise independent judgment in selecting instructional approaches, drills, and progressions.
- Maintain a strong on-hill presence ensuring athlete safety, engagement, and learning effectiveness.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and athlete-centered training environment.
- Model AVSC values, professionalism, and sportsmanship always.
- Support competitive preparation, training camps, and events as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with athletes and parents in accordance with the AVSC Communication Plan.
- Collaborate with fellow coaches and program leadership to ensure program consistency.
- Submit athlete updates, competition results, and program information for publication as requested.
- Attend scheduled training blocks, staff meetings, orientations, and professional development sessions.
- Participate in ongoing coaching education and certification maintenance.
- Assist with awards, recognition programs, and end-of-season evaluations.
- Support AVSC-hosted events, competitions, and camps.
- Interface with governing bodies including U.S. Ski & Snowboard, IFSA, RMD, and related agencies to support program goals.
- Maintain accurate athlete attendance records.
- Complete required athlete billing documentation following camps or travel (if applicable).
- Submit monthly reconciliation and reporting documentation as required.
- Provide an end-of-season written self-evaluation.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable and inclement mountain weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport equipment weighing up to 50–75 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, ski, and maneuver snow for extended periods.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Coaches are not required to perform maneuvers as part of their essential job duties. Those qualified to perform maneuvers listed below must occur only within designated training environments, not casually while freeriding with athletes.
- No aerial maneuvers other than straight airs - no exceptions. Other than straight airs all maneuvers must be qualified with a designated coach on prepared jump and landing (no natural features).
- No inverted maneuvers unless properly qualified.
- No natural features exceeding five (5) feet in height.
- Pre Devo: Straight air, 180, 360, 50/50 ski over box
- Prior experience coaching or instructing freestyle skiing or comparable action sports.
- Strong teaching, communication, and athlete engagement skills.
- Knowledge of freestyle training methodology, progression-based instruction, and safety standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a professional coaching staff.
- Required certifications or ability to obtain certifications as defined by AVSC and governing bodies.
