Freeride Coach

Reports To: Freestyle Director
The Freeride Coach provides athletic and administrative leadership within the Freeride programs. They will deliver high-quality training and prepare athletes for performance in competitions. Intimate knowledge of Freeride competitions and coach principals are an essential part of the job. The position functions as an educator and coach, exercising professional judgment in instructional methods, athlete development, safety management, and on-hill leadership.
The right candidates will possess an organized work style, display enthusiasm and professionalism, and support team members to excel in their roles. This position requires exceptional communication skills, understanding how to help athletes and parents establish seasonal goals, and the ability to design strategies to attain them.

This is a seasonal, exempt, salaried position with a total monthly compensation of $4,833.00 - $5,416.00 for the six-month employment term. Final compensation is determined based on experience, certification, and program needs.
Compensation is paid on a bi-monthly basis throughout the season and is not tied to hours worked. As an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this role is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Athlete Instruction and Coaching Duties & Responsibilitie
- Work with the Freestyle Director to create a schedule that reflects the athletes' and families' goals, abilities, potential, and finances.
- Support and assist Freeride National Competition Group, Regional Competition Group and Team Weekend Freeride
- Implement program design, technical progressions, and AVSC methodology for the individual and the group.
- Ensure your Freeride program has season plan and direction that is revisited and adjusted throughout the season.
- Submit news and results to the Marketing/Information Director for publication in a timely fashion.
- Assist in facilitating awards and recognition programs for the Freestyle Program.
- Guide athletes and parents through the equipment process.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend scheduled training blocks, staff meetings, orientations, and professional development sessions.
- Participate in ongoing coaching education and certification maintenance.
- Assist with awards, recognition programs, and end-of-season evaluations.
- Support AVSC-hosted events, competitions, and camps.
- Interface with governing bodies including U.S. Ski & Snowboard, IFSA, RMD, and related agencies to support program goals.
- Maintain accurate athlete attendance records.
- Complete required athlete billing documentation following camps or travel (if applicable).
- Submit monthly reconciliation and reporting documentation as required.
- Provide an end-of-season written self-evaluation.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable and inclement mountain weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport equipment weighing up to 50–75 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, ski, and maneuver snow for extended periods.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Coaches are not required to perform maneuvers as part of their essential job duties. Those qualified to perform maneuvers listed below must occur only within designated training environments, not casually while freeriding with athletes.
- No aerial maneuvers other than straight airs - no exceptions. Other than straight airs all maneuvers must be qualified with a designated coach on prepared jump and landing (no natural features).
- No inverted maneuvers unless properly qualified.
- No natural features exceeding five (5) feet in height.
- Extensive knowledge and prior experience in all aspects of Freeride and Freeskiing disciplines (big mountain, terrain park, all-mountain)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
- Ability to ski at a high level in all freeride terrain and demonstrate technical skills safely
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with athletes, families, coaches, and partners
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage complex coaching and operational demands
- Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
- Commitment to AVSC's mission, vision, and core values
- Familiarity with IFSA and/or USASA competition structure and rules (preferred)
- Experience managing program budgets (preferred)
- National or International competition experience as a coach and/or athlete (preferred)
