Owl Creek Chase – 30km Freestyle Mass Start (Queen Sage)

  • Registration includes a commemorative bib, tech tee, and lunch, in addition to a fully supported race experience.
  • Fees:
    • $45 for Juniors (Price increases to $55 after January 19th)
    • $50 for Seniors and Masters (Price increases weekly, maxing out at $80)
Owl Creek Tour – 15km Freestyle Mass Start (Point-to-Point)
  • Registration includes a commemorative bib, tech tee, and lunch, in addition to a fully supported race or tour experience.
  • Fees:
    • $45 for Juniors (Price increases to $55 after January 19th)
    • $50 for Seniors and Masters (Price increases weekly, maxing out at $80)
 
Owlet – 1/3/6km Races
  • Registration includes lunch and a fully supported race experience.
  • Fees:
    • $15 for the 1km race
    • $35 for the 3/6km races (Price increases to $45 after January 19th; includes a tech tee)
Parking
Parking is limited at the Snowmass Recreation Center. We encourage participants to park at the Aspen Middle School or the Brush Creek Intercept Lot and use RFTA for transportation to the start.
A bag drop will be available to transport gear from the start to the finish. All gear bags must be placed into the AVSC Transit vehicle before your race start.

  • AVSC Tent (Near Start):
    • Owl Creek Racers (15/30km): Bibs available from 7:00–7:45 AM
  • Start/Finish Tent (Moore Field):
    • Owlet Racers (1/3/6km): Bibs available from 9:00–9:45 AM
Race Description
The Owl Creek Chase is a beloved Nordic ski race that traditionally connects the Snowmass and Aspen communities via scenic and challenging ski traverses.
  • 30km Course: Begins at the Snowmass Recreation Center, featuring a lap around the Snowmass Golf Course, a climb up the iconic “Terminator,” and a technical descent. The route traverses the Owl Creek Trail to Buttermilk, Tiehack, and Aspen High School trails, finishing on Moore Field.
  • 15km Course: A shorter, point-to-point option skipping the Terminator climb and Aspen High School trails for a more approachable challenge.
Historically, the Owl Creek Chase has been a stop on the USSA SuperTour circuit, a qualifier for other prestigious races, and the culminating event of the Nordic Festival. With its traditional 21k route and deep connection to the Nordic community, this race holds a special place in the hearts of racers and locals alike.

  • 5:30–7:30 AM: Course marking
  • 7:00–8:00 AM: Bib pick-up at Aspen Cross Country Center (for all racers)
  • 8:00 AM: 15/30km Owl Creek Chase Mass Start Freestyle
    • Start: Across from Black Saddle (Driving Range)
    • Finish: Moore Ball Field
    • Cut-off Time: 12:30 PM (Racers may continue skiing, but timing ends)
  • 9:45 AM: Owlet (1/3/6km Races)
    • Parking at Aspen Middle School; ski to the start
    • Start/Finish: Moore Ball Field
  • 11:30 AM: Lunch for all racers at AVSC Clubhouse
  • 12:45 PM: Raffle and awards
